SUBJECT:
Weekend Crew Duties
PURPOSE:
To organize and direct all three; duty crews so as all tasks, training, safety talks, apparatus, equipment checks are accomplished at each truck check and perform professionally and safely.
A. Captains Assignments
1. Captains shall assign firefighters to check apparatus so all firefighters on a crew is familiar with each apparatus.
2. Captains shall oversee the progress of all firefighters of all equipment stored on all apparatus.
3. Captains shall review all truck check sheets when firefighters have completed individual checks.
4. Captains shall instruct and evaluate each firefighter on the operations and knowledge of fire pumps on each individual apparatus. There shall be a written record of pump training by using Department pump operations practical exercise form (SOP Form 76 – 72). This training shall be completed each quarter and recorded.
B. Safety Talks
1. Each Crew shall be given the predetermined Safety Talk located in the Department Firefighter Life Safety Resource Kit & Training Manual. Each Captain shall assure that each firefighter fully understands the contents and importance of each safety talk. This training shall be completed each truck check and recorded with firefighters signature, Safety Talk sign in sheet is provided in the Resource Kit.
C. What’s For Drill Today?
1. Each Crew shall review at least one of the training drills that are provided in the Resource Kit. This training shall be completed each truck check and recorded with firefighters signature, (What’s For Drill Today?) Sign in sheet is provided in the Resource Kit in Section 2.
D. Station Cleaning
1. Each crew shall clean truck bays, administration building, and restrooms as needed. Empty trash containers as needed.
E. Training DVD’s and Video’s
1. As time permits, each crew shall view the listed training material list below at least annually and documented in the Crew Captains Log Book.

-Use department video library for other training material
F. SCBA – Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
1. Firefighters shall don and doff SCBA in 60 seconds or less. Firefighters shall demonstrate this task in a controlled, professional and safe manner.
2. Firefighters shall demonstrate the ability to perform the RIT rescue kit in a controlled, professional, and safe manner.
G. Contents of Apparatus
1. Each crew shall review the contents of the hose bed on each apparatus.
2. Each crew shall review the contents of each apparatus compartment.
H. Basic Skills
1. Captains shall have each firefighter demonstrate the knowledge and ability of rope and knot skills.
2. Ground ladder skills.
3. Hose nozzle skills.
4. Extrication tools.
5. Various power saws and tools.
I. Inspection of personal protective equipment
1. Each firefighter shall inspect P.P.E. and record findings.
2. Each firefighter shall inspect personal equipment.
3. Each firefighter shall wash P.P.E. as needed.
J. Special Equipment Checks and Maintenance
1. Crew (1) Responsibilities
-Inspect ground ladders bi-monthly.
-Inspect hose nozzles quarterly and record.
2. Crew (2) Responsibilities
-Inspect SCBA monthly and record.
-Change batteries twice each year and record.
-Inspect and maintenance Thermal Imaging Camera and record.
-Inspect and maintenance Air Monitors and record.
3. Crew (3) Responsibilities
-Inspect and maintenance small power equipment and record.
